Rotorua
Yet another lake!
Another day another lake!
Today we drove to Rotorua where we found out that tomorrow’s activity is across the street from the hotel, just outside our window!
Before leaving Taupo we finally made it to Huka Falls lookout , the road was cleaned up enough to allow traffic but the car park was still closed and everyone was forced to park along the road making it a bit messy. We were lucky and found a spot just by the entrance to the regular parking.
Along the way to Rotorua there’s a lot of geothermal activity, since the road to Craters of the Moon
in Taupo was still closed we headed towards Waimangu Volcanic Valley
.
The Waimangu Valley was created by the Tarawera Eruption in 1886 and showcases hot springs, Frying Pan Lake, Inferno Crater, steam vents and great views.
This was a great experience and we are so glad we got to go here (not part of the original plan), we also opted to take the optional hike past the Black Crater, I counted 270 steps on the way up before it started to head down again, don’t think I’ll be needing the gym today.
In the evening we found the local food street and poor Magnus had to do the cooking himself, he was quite happy with his hot stone and meat!
