To the South Island

A night at the castle!

With an early flight from Wellington to Dunedin it was really nice to stay over night at the airport. After checkin in our bags we had a quick breakfast and then went to check out from the hotel.

With yet another rental car we set out for lunch. We headed to Port Chalmers, a historic town serving as the main port for the city of Dunedin. Hungry, we found lunch at a cute little hotel just past the cruise ships.

Back in the car, Magnus insisted we go check out Baldwin Street, the steepest street in the world. He got his way and off we went! It was quite steep indeed.

The drive to our next accomodation offered some great views along the winding road.

We arrived a bit early for check in so we went directly to Larnach Castle, New Zealands ony castle! We got some well needed coffee in the Castle Cafe. We then went off exploring the castle. In a corner off the second floor we found a narrow spiral stone staircase leading to the top of the tower. At 320 meter above sea level the views were amazing.

Dinner at the castle, before heading off we had a drink and canapés at the estate where we are staying before being taken to the Castle for dinner. Two long tables was set up in the Music room and we were seated between two Dutch ladies and a New Zealand couple. We had a wounderful time and got some valuable travel tips and left the evening happy and well fed!
