Fox Glacier Heli Hike
Helicopters and ice
Woke up early today, the cows across the street apparently are morning cows.
First thing was to check the weather, in case of rain or clouds our activity for the day would get cancelled. The clouds were forcasted to come in around 1pm, our trip supposed to start at 12pm. Noooo, can't have our Heli Hike cancelled!!!
Quick phone call later and we were rescheduled for 9am, phew!
After the security briefing we got fitted with shoes, rain jackets and backpacks before being bussed to the helicopters. There were 2 helicopters going back and forth to the glacier. There were 5 groups going up, but only 4 going down! Dum dum dum!!! (The guides stayed behind for the next session).
The helicopter ride was absolutely awesome (not hard since I LOVE helicopters) but way too short! Once up on the glacier, we were fitted with crampons (broddar) and off we went with our guide. We spent around 3 hours on the glacier hiking up and down looking at great formations and crevasses (glaciärsprickor) before hiking a ride down with the chopters again.
